March 12, 2024 Why Oak is supporting International Women's Day

In honour of International Women's Day on Friday 8th March, we have shared the history behind the day and why we celebrate it as a company.

Why Oak is supporting International Women's Day

Each year, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated globally to reflect on progress made, to raise awareness on change needed, and to celebrate the women around us. In our article below, we have shared the history of IWD, this year's theme, why Oak is supporting IWD and how we are celebrating.

What is International Women’s Day and when did it start?

IWD was marked for the first time in March 1911 – and the date was fixed as 8 March in 1913. The United Nations (UN) first celebrated in 1975 and 21 years later, UN announced their first annual theme “Celebrating the past, Planning for the Future”.

The goal is to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness and drive gender parity.

What is the theme for 2024?

This year's theme is #InspireInclusion, celebrating diversity and women's empowerment.

Oak's support and how we are celebrating IWD

At Oak, we are proud to embrace diversity.

Our workforce is 65% female and represents nationalities from Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. By bringing together our different perspectives, we can truly encourage solidarity and work towards a more inclusive future for all.

We believe everyday you should celebrate the women around you, not just one day in the year. However, it is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and join the conversation. This year, we wanted to focus the spotlight on inspiring women within our leadership team and women within our network. In doing so, our team and network can learn about their career journeys, proudest achievements since joining Oak, which women inspire them, and how they are committed to inspire inclusion.
