Oak Mauritius Sponsors FC Tamarin United

Empowering the Mauritian Community

Early in 2023, FC Tamarin learned that the Black River District Council intended to turn their current store and office into a dispensary, which in turn prompted the club to look for an alternative location.

Oak, as an existing sponsor of the players club kit, were approached and eager to offer their support to purchase and convert a shipping container into functional space for the club.

FC Tamarin United, which started as a group of 65 children, has grown into a vibrant community of more than 150 young players. The club's commitment to fostering talent and a sense of belonging irrespective of social and financial status is obvious.

The efforts from the club have enabled the children to celebrate victories in the FAA Tournament for the under-12 and under-13 age groups and a noteworthy second-place performance in the under-15 age group.

"We are very proud of how far the club has come and the contribution it is making to the local people of Black River," Oak Director Cheryl Holl said.

The container now serves as a staff office, a small canteen where food and drinks are served during home games, and a designated place for equipment storage.

The club president of FC Tamarin United, Julien Meunier, said: "We are grateful for Oak's support. With their backing, we were able to create a physical place as well as foster an environment where young athletes were able to build a community that thrives."
