In early September, the Jersey Beach Sprint team competed against crews from England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland at the second Home International Rowing Beach Sprint Regatta. This thrilling event, featuring the “Home Nations” with Jersey as a guest, promises to be a stepping stone for up-and-coming players on the national teams of Great Britain and Ireland.
Wales was awarded the Team trophy despite the fact that all teams exhibited exceptional expertise, however, team Jersey made an impression, winning gold in the Senior Women’s solo by Natacha Searson and the Senior Mixed Double by Hylton Harvey and Sarah Earles, and silver in the Senior Men’s solo by Chris Thompson. Behind the scenes, the boat handling and support team, included Adam Le Lere, John Searson and Abi Searson, who contributed significantly to the success of the Jersey team.
These achievements were made possible by the entire Jersey Beach Sprint community's dedication, as well as Oak Group's generous sponsorship of the Beach Sprint team in Jersey. Over the next four years, Oak's sponsorship will continue to enable Jersey and the Jersey Rowing Club to provide a remarkable experience for participants and spectators, covering equipment, essential costs and supporting athletes in off-island competitions.
Beach sprint organiser and Oak Associate Director, Sarah Earles said: "I am extremely proud to be a member of the Oak team, which has provided fantastic sponsorship to the Jersey Rowing Club. This support has enabled us to invest in new boats, enhancing our performance in beach sprinting in 2023 and enabling us to compete at a level comparable to the Welsh, Scottish, Irish, and English squads."
