Mark established Oak Trust (Guernsey) Limited in 1999, after spending many years within the financial services industry in South Africa and Jersey.
He earned a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accountancy at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and finished his articles at the Johannesburg accounting firm Pim Goldby, where he also earned his qualification as a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1984. From 1984 to 1988, he served as financial controller at Femco Electric Motors Limited in Johannesburg. He started his own liquidation company in Johannesburg in 1989 before moving to Jersey to join Ernst and Young Trust Company (Jersey) Limited in 1997.
Mark has been instrumental in guiding the company from its inception to its current position as a leader in international funds, private client and corporate services.
As Oak Group celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024 Mark relinquished his role as Chairman, he continues to have an interest in Opera Limited and sits on the Opera Advisory Panel alongside Steve Lansdown, co-founder of Hargreaves Lansdown, the U.K.'s largest stockbroking firm.
Outside of work
Mark is a Long Service Member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and serves as its EMEA representative; he also won the WealthBriefing Lifetime Achievement Award just recently. Mark is a member of the council of Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG), a charitable organisation that focuses on cancer care and counselling for men. Outside of Oak, he loves to travel, enjoying the food, drink, art and music that any culture has to offer.
