The Oak-sponsored Jersey Netball Association’s Net ‘Ball’ celebrated young players in the island with netball star Serena Guthrie MBE attending the event on 31 January as a special guest.
Serena presented the Association’s under-14 and under-16 players with prizes in recognition of their dedication in the 2018/2019 season and Team Jets players were awarded medals for the 2019/2020 season during the event.
Serena was also named Honorary Life Member and Ambassador of the Association for her dedication to the sport and took part in a Q&A session, led by Jimmy Kelly and James Brennan from MasonBreese, where guests had the opportunity to ask questions about her accomplishments and experiences playing the sport.
Serena grew up in Jersey and worked diligently through the netball clubs, playing for Team Jets, and progressed to playing for teams in Australia and New Zealand. She helped secure the coveted gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and captained the England Roses in the 2019 Netball World Cup where the team achieved bronze.
The Jersey Netball Association raised over £3,000 through a silent auction and raffle which will be used to support its offering to young players.
