Oak Mauritius has continued its support of the I61 Foundation through a long- term CSR partnership to support community projects in Mauritius and beyond.
The I61 Foundation's main focus is to assist corporate and faith-based organisations, as well as individuals, in allocating their CSR funds for projects that empower communities throughout Mauritius and provide a sustainable outcome.
Oak Mauritius works closely with the I61 Foundation to help identify where real need lies in the community and Scott McPherson, manager in our Mauritius office, has played an instrumental role setting up various initiatives in partnership with the Foundation.
Together with Oak and other funders, the I61 Foundation serves disadvantaged communities around the island of Mauritius, which is home to many families facing a wide variety of issues such as unemployment, malnutrition and inadequate housing. It helps to identify, match and connect willing funders with screened, community-empowering NGO projects.
Funders are provided with a full report of how their finances have been allocated within each project as well as a full report upon completion of the project.
Founder of I61 Foundation, Tamany Geldenhuys, describes the Foundation’s key focus areas as:
-
Alleviation of poverty
-
Education for all
-
Fighting social injustice
-
Assisting communities in times of crisis
Most recently the Foundation has led a COVID-19 crisis response, distributing food packs and PPE whilst also raising Rs1.2 million towards relief efforts, in line with their commitment to restore, renew and rebuild communities on the Island of Mauritius.
